About Solo Concerts

Mandelid is one of Norway´s “up and coming” jazz musicians that ignore genre boundaries and always perform original material. After working for years with expanding what the role and sound of the acoustic/electric guitar can be in the vocal/guitar duo Sonic Stories, he now digs even deeper in his guitarists-toolbox for his solo performances. The sound of his specially made 7-stringed acoustic guitars are always in the forefront, seasoned with carefully placed electronics and unusual techniques.

    His performances balances precomposed material with improvised sections creating soundscapes and music far beyond that associated with guitars. Luckily, some would say, he mostly plays the guitar just as it should be played. Being trained both as a classical and jazz guitarist he draws inspiration from both traditions.

    The concerts at Viljandi Guitar-festival and upcoming tour is part of his preparation for the recording of his solo album coming out in 2013.
